MAKE-UP FOR WORK

Women who work in nine-to-five jobs then spend nearly the entire day in the office, where there is usually very little if any natural light. Being well groomed is just as important as being good at the job for which they were hired, and the right office make up can actually make a very big difference.

Office make-up should always be subtle, soft, and almost unnoticeable. It is important to always strive for a natural look when applying makeup for the office. This by no means is an indication that you should try to look dull or boring, because you should always look your very best. What it does mean is you should look confident and allow your winning personality to shine through. What looks good in the bathroom mirror or in sunlight may not look good at all under harsh fluorescent office lights. After office makeup is applied in the morning, it should look fresh all the day long and require very little touching-up.

After mastering the right way to apply makeup for the office, it will not be difficult for any woman to achieve the perfect workday look.

First of all, make-up to be worn in the office should never be exaggerated in any way. It should at all times be as natural as possible. A fresh clean look is best for the office, so it is best to avoid using a lot of foundation. Even if a foundation is normally used to cover flaws in the skin such as pock marks or scars, light skin mousse is more suitable. In lieu of foundation, it is better to use a moisturizer with SPF topped with face compact powder which can be stowed in your desk for touch-ups whenever necessary during the course of the day.

Healthy skin is a prerequisite for any makeup regimen. The first step before applying make-up is to thoroughly clean the face and follow with an astringent or a toner to make sure the pores are clean. This step is followed by moisturizer. Choosing the right moisturizer is key.

Water based moisturizers are excellent for people with oily skin. However, water based moisturizers are deadly for people with excessively dry skin, who must use a moisturizer with a light oil base. The cleansing, toning and moisturizing process is essential for maintaining skin that is soft and supple. A face that is clean and free of blemishes can go without foundation, which may look spotty and unnatural under fluorescent lights. If necessary, a concealer may be used to cover spots or flaws in the skin. Just be sure to blend it in completely.

Natural shades of blush and light eye shadow paired with long lasting eyeliners accentuate the eyes without making them appear garish. Warm, earthy gold tones on the cheeks produce a more natural appearance in fluorescent lighting. Pink blush tones should be avoided because fluorescent lights often make them look muddy. It is best to use light eye shadow colors like gold, peach or rose and to avoid dull colors like gray or blue. Brown eyeliner and mascara appear more natural than black. Some women mix of both colors to achieve the look they want.

A long lasting lipstick or lip gloss in a medium natural shade is also a must have for any office setting. It is best to wear medium shades of lipstick such as brown, mochas or peach shades. It is also acceptable to wear lip-gloss. Shimmering lipstick shades should be avoided for work altogether and reserved for nighttime wear, as well as lipstick colors like beige, taupe or earthy tones because they tend to take on a muddy appearance in office lights. Women who choose to wear heavy eye makeup should avoid lipstick and opt for lip gloss in order to look natural in the work environment.
