APPLYING MAKE-UP FOR EVENING OCCASIONS

It is always advantageous to put your best face forward, and that is especially true when preparing for a night out on the town. Most will agree that the process for applying nighttime makeup is basically the same as when applying make-up for daytime wear. However, when getting made up for the evening, it is always good to include a few additional dramatic effects. Some people prefer to remove all of their daytime make-up and start all over again. Others choose to simply touch up the make-up they already have on.

Make-up professionals recommend that when applying makeup for an evening look, emphasis be placed on either the eyes or lips. It is sometimes necessary to apply a little more concealer or foundation under the eyes or even to apply a different nighttime foundation in a slightly darker shade finished off with pressed powder.

After applying foundation, a darker shade of blush, such as wine or mauve follows the cheekbone along the contour of the cheekbone toward the ear and blending into the hairline.

When the preference is for evocatively mysterious eyes with layers eye shadow in different shades, paired with thick eye liner and mascara or false eye lashes, it is best to tone down the lipstick by donning a neutral shade or sheer lip gloss. White or light color eye shadow highlights the eyebrow while gold, silver or bronze add shimmer and shine. Darker shades of eye shadow and dark colored eye liner just above the upper lashes add a charmingly misty and alluring finish. One or two coats of mascara on the eye lashes add the finishing touches to get the evening off to a fantastic start.

If, on the other hand, you have a great full pair of lips, play them up with a deep plum or bright red lipstick, topped with lip gloss for added glimmer and just go with a thin line along the eye lash and a soft touch of eye shadow. If the attention is on the lips, care should be taken to use moisturizer or even an exfoliant on to make sure they maintain a healthy appearance and the skin does not become cracked or flaky.

In addition, taking a little time to smooth a little glitter or sparkle around the eyes, or on cheekbones, goes a long way to enhance a woman’s glamour during the evening. A little touch of sparkle can even add extra allure when used to accent décolletage as well.

In these times of rapid movement and quick changes, it is often necessary for a woman to change from her daytime look to her evening look by simply making some quick fixes to daytime make-up. When moving from the bright lights of the office to dimly lit restaurants and shadowy nightclubs, enhancing daytime make-up to stand out after work is relatively easy. The tools necessary for the transformation can easily fit into almost any purse or cosmetic bag. They are:

  • Blush
  • Blush Brush
  • Concealer
  • Cotton Swabs
  •  Eye Shadow
  • Face Powder
  • Facial Tissues
  • Foundation
  • Lip Balm
  • Lip Liners
  • Shimmery Powders
  • Cotton Swabs
  • Foundation

Before starting the transformation from day to evening, it is essential that you first use a clean cotton swab to get rid of flaking eye make-up and fix any eye liner or lipstick that may be showing obvious signs of wear and make repairs to foundation or concealer they may be creased or flaking. Next it will be necessary to use a blotting paper to absorb excess oil from shiny skin.
Then touch up under-eye circles and blemishes with a concealer and apply additional foundation if there is any fading or unevenness.

Set your makeup with pressed powder and sweep blush from the apple of your cheek to the hairline, just as you did in the morning, this time using a slightly darker shade than your daytime blush in order to highlight the contour of your cheeks.

Finally, add a dramatic flair to weary end-of-the-day eyes with additional eye shadow and eyeliner. If it isn’t smudged too much, you can simply retrace your morning shadow, darkening the crease and upper corner of the eyelid. For an even more dramatic look, you could use your forefinger to smudge a heavy dark line on your upper eyelid for a smoky look. Once you are happy with the appearance of your eyelids, go ahead and add mascara to the tips of your lashes and finish it all off by lining your lips and filling them in with a matching or complimentary color and finish it all off with a shimmering lip gloss.
